Local Autonomy - we know best
Farming: Don’t turn barns into holiday homes, use to grow food i.e. mushrooms; give grants to encourage new crops / animals, wild boars on moors etc, allowing for climate change vineyards
Fund renewable energy in all forms e.g. wave power
Only allow purchase of village houses to local community if new sale
Broadband connection everywhere
Peripatetic services such as health
Transport - improve all public transport and community transport
Mobile education schemes for country skills i.e. drystone walling, training in all new and old skills required for sustainability

- a thriving market town
- successful small shops, alongside the inevitable superstores
- good transport links, hopefully with improved and expanded rail links, where available.
- improved facilities for young people, that don’t require transport to larger centres
- affordable housing
- better policing i.e. one officer based in the town not on call from local cities
- hospital services within reasonable reach
- encouragement for small industry to thrive

- My vision for 2020 would have seen the result of the positive economic benefits of the early C21st initiatives such as ‘Carbon Neutral’, organic produce and activity tourism
- Furthermore, the movement of the ageing population to rural communities would be seen as a positive social and economic generator
- Planning restrictions would have been amended to facilitate jobs and affordable housing
- Government would have at least demonstrated ‘joined-up’ thinking through its transport, health and community services with regards to rural and urban communities!

To retain the Green Belt in the vicinity of the village in which I live
To maintain the excellent standard of public transport which is available at present
To provide affordable housing for people in the low income bracket
To encourage people to make less use of their motor cars and use more environmentally friendly modes of transport.
To promote healthy lifestyles – healthy diets and the benefits of exercise.

Design transport inter-connectivity that is viable by being flexible and demand responsive
Community spirit fostering by improvement of activities, services and facilities.
Measurement of demand, needs and desires at a lower level.
Better accessibility for all to green space especially nature reserves, tied to better education of all in wildlife and its role in eco-systems
Return to local crime control with local beat officers responsible to local community
Better access to emergency health services
Biggest aspiration: That people become less selfish and more concerned for fellow
travellers on the planet!

Renewable and energy efficient homes with use of recyclable components.
More community allotments with fruit and vegetables - at these it would be lovely to see intergenerational activity between young and old. Roof top gardens.
School markets – children growing fruit and veg and then learning entrepreneurial skills selling
Biodiversity – more environmental learning activities for young people. Links to farming
and young farmers associations. Outside classrooms; more recording of
what is right on our doorstep.
Linking up of heritage sites in the area, to naturally support each other – local tours that link up.
Affordable housing – more as country small cottages in keeping with area and with what rural young people have grown up with
Going back to farming, local people buying locally at post offices etc. post offices being kept but broadening their facilities.
Support village halls to offer more facilities and to be open for longer
Less crime
Pollution free and low carbon communities
More health activities / leisure facilities

Strong communities that work together / better communication / IT for all
Activities for young people and children – makes them feel part of their community
Transport that works, meets rural needs locally
Enough affordable housing to meet local area needs sensitively 9keep green spaces)
Access to local health care and support systems
Salary equality for those that choose to live and work locally and raise their families there
Continued recognition of the importance of rural towns and their needs and support in accessing funding streams (i.e. that funding is still available out there)
Support for continual learning and training opportunities for all ages and capabilities including migrants who are important to our future
Community / Arts Centres – find a way that all ages feel comfortable and are able to use these facilities (i.e. village halls that would rather stay empty than let a youth group in once a week!)
Improve and enhance leisure pursuits for all ages
Raise the profile of what’s good in the countryside to greater levels – food,
community strengths
Great schools, specialist colleges’ support, help to determine strengths and improve weaknesses
